По умолчанию proftpd

proftpd не хочет авторизовывать. Стоит авторизация через PAM.

Шелл пользователя, под которым пытаетесь подключится, прописан в /etc/shells?

спасибо за решение)
у юзеров /bin/false стоял шелл, а в /ets/shells его нету. поставил /sbin/nologin и всё заработало.
